“ This is a brilliant book by a brilliant mind. In fact, it is a revolution in thought.”

As we have said, ART now stands as the single most influential text of its kind, providing many thousands of celebrated professionals with the philosophic anchor for success--be they actors, musicians, painters or writers. The work is further credited for the launching of several thousand new careers and forms the basis of the Hubbard Basic Art Course, providing students with the all important application of fundamental principles on communication through art. But returning to Ron's original 1965 statement on the subject, and particularly remarks on the spiritual rehabilitation of an artist through Dianetics and Scientology, let us move to that greater philosophic vista.

Although long argued that every artist,
by necessity, must possess a little neurosis, LRH very firmly declares the opposite. Indeed, with the betterment of a creative person in terms of sanity, vitality, confidence and general ability to both understand and communicate, he tells us, "We can observe that his ability to execute what he conceives and the clarity with which he conceives it both increase very markedly. His aesthetic ideas do not become conservative or humdrum but become often wider and more complex. He becomes more himself and better able to do what he can in the field of aesthetics."

Such is the role of Dianetics and Scientology in the arts: to provide that means by which an artist becomes more himself and thus more aesthetically able. Specifically to that end--and, incidentally, herein lies the real attraction of so many celebrated names--the artist is offered an array of Scientology services. Of particular note, is L. Ron Hubbard's Key to Life, based upon the premise: if one truly comprehended what he read and heard, and if he were able to make himself comprehended by others, then all of life would open to him. Utilizing step-by-step procedures to strip away the barriers to comprehension, Key to Life constitutes a major breakthrough in the field of communication. Thus although originally devised to help reverse a disturbing trend of worldwide illiteracy and communication difficulties, its value to the artist is virtually axiomatic. After all, as Ron very correctly notes, what else is a great artist if not one who communicates to others?
